Worth knowing before you commit
GS1 lot and serial barcodes need a 2D-capable scanner. Confirm the hardware before scoping traceability, because 1D scanners cannot read them.
Scanning a barcode for a receipt always creates a new operation rather than matching a scheduled one. Receiving against an existing purchase order means printing the picking for that specific receipt first.
In Canada
Barcode for a Canadian business
Traceability scoping in Canada usually starts with the scanner. Food, cannabis and regulated manufacturing all tend toward GS1 codes, which puts you on 2D hardware before any software decision gets made.
